Sam Winternheimer is an active bassist and educator based in Atlanta, Georgia. Sam performs a wide variety of music with an emphasis on jazz and blues.
After a five year tenure in Milwaukee, Sam has recently moved back to the Southeast . While living in Milwaukee, Sam performed widely throughout the midwest. He performed in festivals such as Summerfest, Mississippi Valley Blues Festival, Bayview Jazz Festival and the Detroit Jazz Festival. While working with up-and-coming blues guitarist, Stephen Hull, Sam performed on two international tours across France, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland and Scotland. The Stephen Hull Experience headlined Chicago Blues Festival, Jazz à Vienne, Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival, Blues Cazorla, and Montreux Jazz Festival Switzerland. Sam regularly performed in clubs in Wisconsin and Chicago including The Jazz Estate, Rosa’s Lounge and Buddy Guy’s Legends.
Sam remains an in-demand bassist on both upright and electric bass. He performs regularly in Atlanta’s jazz and creative music scene. Notably, Sam has performed with artists such as Buddy Guy, James Francies, Sean Ardoin, Kevin Bales, Wes “Warmdaddy” Anderson, Tyrone Jackson, Diego Rivera, Bill Peterson, Derrick Gardner, Tyler Neal, and Joe Grandsen.
Sam’s extensive teaching portfolio includes a four year tenure as bass instructor and combo director at Eastern Illinois University. He also served as instructor of electric and jazz bass for the Quattro String Academy, alongside members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and on the Jazz & Contemporary Music faculty for the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. He holds his Bachelor of Music from Michigan State University and his Master of Music from Florida State University.
